Graduates and interns

We invest in the next generation of talent by offering structured graduate programs and internship opportunities designed to provide hands-on experience, professional development, and a strong foundation for a successful career. These programs offer a unique opportunity to work alongside industry experts, tackle real-world challenges, and gain insights into cutting-edge technology and innovation – all while developing critical skills that will set you apart in the job market.

Graduate program

The Graduate Program is an 18-month development program focused on equipping graduates with the skills and experience to succeed in a high-tech environment.

Starting in February each year, it combines specialist on-the-job training with structured learning modules in technical and professional areas. Graduates are exposed to different business fields, visit Thales sites across Australia and New Zealand, and develop expertise in innovative solutions. From day one, you will be supported by a mentor and a buddy to guide your journey.

Who are we looking for?

We seek curious, driven, and innovative graduates who are ready to make an impact. Our program is open to a variety of disciplines, including engineering fields such as mechatronics, software, mechanical, and electrical, as well as IT, cybersecurity, business, and operations.

Your academic performance is just one area we take into consideration. We really care about what drives you, where your professional passions lie, and of course, your learning agility. We look for graduates who are eager to take responsibility, are accountable, and are willing to use their voice to challenge the status quo – to help make our organisation better with their business insights and/or technical aptitude.

The team is incredibly welcoming, and grads quickly feel like part of the community. Going from university to work can be a very steep learning curve, but everyone understands the position you’re in and no one expects you to know anything about the product.

During my graduate rotations across four sections of the Mulwala facility, I worked with many engineering teams and I learned many valuable skills. I feel fortunate to have had this opportunity – it really helped me to see what kind of work I liked and what I didn’t.

Graduate application process

Step 1: Submit your application via Thales GradConnection pageApplications typically open between March and April every year.

Step 2: Shortlisted candidates will be invited to complete a short online video interview at a time that suits them. This helps us get to know you beyond your application.

Step 3: Selected candidates will attend an interview to learn more about Thales and be assessed on both technical and behavioural skills. This is also your chance to meet potential managers and gain insights into our working environment.

Step 4: Successful candidates will undergo pre-employment checks – including a police check and, depending on the role, a medical assessment – before receiving a formal offer to join Thales.

Internship program

We offer paid internships designed to give undergraduate students hands-on industry experience. Internships typically run for six months. We usually partner with a local tertiary institution and offer the placements as part of the work or industry-based learning component of a degree. These programs can often become a pathway into our graduate program.

As an intern, you will work on real projects, gain exposure to various technologies, and collaborate with industry experts. Each internship is structured to match your field of study and career aspirations, ensuring a meaningful and personalised experience that sets you up for future success.

Who are we looking for?

We look for people who are curious, eager to learn, and passionate about problem solving. If you have a strong interest in Thales and a drive to take on real-world challenges, our internships provide the opportunity to work on exciting projects, gain experience, and explore a future career in our industry. You will be supported by experts who care about your growth and encouraged to bring your ideas to the table.

Internship application process
