Diversity, equity and inclusion

At Thales, we are committed to fostering a workplace where every employee feels respected, valued, and empowered. We believe that an inclusive culture, where everyone can bring their whole self to work, drives innovation, collaboration, and success.

This commitment is formalised in our diversity, equity and inclusion strategy, Respect@Thales, which outlines our dedication to creating a safe, inclusive, and supportive environment for our employees and the communities we serve.

Gender equality

We are dedicated to fostering a culture of equality, where career growth and opportunities are not affected by gender identity. Our gender equality actions include:

  • Championing equal opportunities through leadership training on inclusive decision-making, pay equity, and striving for gender equality in leadership;
  • Challenging gender stereotypes – our inclusive parental leave policy supports gender-neutral care, men’s participation in caregiving, and diverse family structures;
  • Supporting employees affected by domestic violence to strengthen equal relationships;
  • Listening to our people via Respect@Thales initiatives, employee resource groups, and engagement surveys;
  • WGEA compliance – we submit an annual report to the Workplace Gender Equality Agency (WGEA), which promotes gender equality in Australian workplaces.

Thales is also endorsed by WORK180, committed to equity and inclusion, flexible work arrangements, shared caregiving, and career development.

LGBTQ+

Thales actively promotes lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender inclusion, ensuring all employees can contribute and grow in a workplace free from discrimination. We are a Bronze Employer in the Australian Workplace Equality Index (AWEI), a national benchmark on LGBTQ+ inclusion.

Our initiatives include membership in Pride in Diversity, the Thales LGBTQ+ employee resource group, and education and awareness programs such as online training, educational videos, and keynote events. We also show visible support through initiatives like rainbow lanyards and pins, reinforcing our dedication to creating a workplace where everyone can be their authentic selves.

For the LGBTQ+ community of Thales, this means having support networks that work collaboratively to develop and maintain inclusion, safety, and prosperity.

Accessibility and neurodiversity

We strive to reflect society’s diversity by supporting employees with disabilities and neurodiversity, including hidden conditions. In addition to raising awareness of both visible and hidden disabilities, we emphasise the value of meaningful work. Our approach includes making reasonable adjustments in recruitment and employment, as well as providing opportunities to engage with the accessibility and neurodiversity employee resource group.

In partnership with the Australian Network on Disability, we continuously refine our policies, recruitment processes, and disability confidence training, ensuring long-term inclusion and accessibility.

First Nations

Our vision for reconciliation is for all Australians to understand, respect, and take pride in Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander histories and cultures. Our journey reflects our dedication to honouring the past, embracing Australia’s diversity, and uniting to create an inspiring future. Some of our key activities include:

  • Reconciliation Action Plan Committee – a team of Thales employees overseeing the development and progress of our Reconciliation Action Plan, sponsored by a Vice President;
  • Partnerships with The Clontarf Foundation, CareerTrackers, Supply Nation, and Jumbunna Institute for Indigenous Education and Research;
  • Guluwa Scholarships – providing students with opportunities to work with Thales in Australia;
  • CareerTrackers commitment – hiring 10 CareerTrackers students annually for 10 years.

Veterans and reservists

Thales prides itself on supporting the Australian Defence Force, both while they are serving and when they leave service. To reinforce this commitment, we launched the Thales Australia Veterans Committee through the Respect@Thales council. This committee advises our leadership on the challenges veterans and their families face, focusing on assisting veterans’ transition from defence to the private sector. This supports our goal of being an employer of choice for veterans, leveraging their skills to continue serving Australia’s national interests.

We also offer up to 30 days of paid leave for reservists, recognising that their skills and knowledge from military service strengthen defence capability and enhance our ability to serve our customers.
